Thermal Engineer / Data Centre Optimisation Engineer

Talented technical people required to help solve Global Energy Efficiency Challenge – full training offered.

Company Summary

EkkoSense is a Nottingham based business that works in many of the world’s most critical IT environments delivering products and services that reduce risk and energy used for cooling. Our elite Data Centre Optimisation (DCOP) team is searching for a number of people of diverse technical backgrounds to work with us in the UK and wider afield to solve one of the planets greatest hidden energy efficiency challenges.

Job Summary

Currently over 2% of global energy is used by the IT industry. Of this 30% is used in cooling, much of it unnecessarily. DCOP teams focus their unique skills and training to reduce the energy used in cooling IT by using a combination of our own unique software tools and sensors, a unique training programme on our process, and perhaps most importantly an individual’s innate cunning and determination to get some of the world’s most complex thermal environments quickly understood and safely.

The worlds IT systems are typically operated in vast, highly regulated, data centres that operate quietly in the background of society and hence historically have not attracted large numbers of talented technical people into the industry. For this reason EkkoSense do not make familiarity with data centres a prerequisite for becoming a DCOP team member, we cast our net far wider. As for career progression, as the elite cooling service the reputation of EkkoSense DCOP engineers is prized among personnel working on the mechanical and electrical systems in Critical Infrastructure and many former DCOP’s have moved into senior management positions within EkkoSense and wider in our industry.

The work that we do and the process we employ requires individuals with aptitudes for learning new techniques in heat transfer and cooling optimisation and often innate ability in this area can be identified by the team and developed over time. Talented individuals who can demonstrate traits of determination, concentration, curiosity and problem solving ability have previously come from many places such as, college graduates with hobbies in go-cart racing or aerodynamics and aviation, veteran metal fabricators who through self-interest know more than their instructors in metallurgy, chef’s with impeccable timing and heat proof fingers, refrigeration engineers who insist on the perfect superheat and like to discuss enthalpy, plumbing and gas fitters who remember and can apply Boyles law. We also, regularly recruit individuals from the closely related building services industry who wish to master the complex interactions between energy, airflow and cooling systems in complex environments.

The team have derived the required skills and knowledge of DCOP personnel as an equation from first principles:

If you can work out what this equation relates to then we are interested in talking to you.

Must be able to drive as there will be a requirement for regular travel to customer sites.

Salary and benefits

Attractive salary (dependent on experience), Workplace Pension, great headquarters work location with associate benefits, on site car parking, excellent public transport links and plenty of scope for career progression.
